KABUL , Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Taliban-led attacks and conflicts claimed more than 120 lives elsewhere in Afghanistan while leaving nearly 200 others injured in October, compared with nearly 200 and 230 for September, respectively.
More than 20 major bomb attacks took place last month around the country, including 10 suicide attacks, involving more than 14 suicide bombers, according to official data.
On Oct. 31 , up to 26 detainees, including several Taliban captives, were wounded when a rocket fired by Taliban hit the Afghan National Detention Facility Parwan, in adjoining area of Bagram Air Base, the main U.S. military base in eastern Parwan province, 50 km north of national capital of Kabul.
On Oct. 27 , six prosecutors and a policeman were killed and 22 others largely civilians were wounded when three militants launched a suicide bombing and shooting attack on the provincial office of prosecuting attorney in the northern Kunduz province.
The Taliban insurgent group has intensified attacks over the past couple of months as NATO and U.S. forces are withdrawing from the country. The war-torn country is due to take over the responsibility for its own security from NATO-led troops by the end of the year.
Five civilians died and two others sustained injuries after the militants fired on a vehicle in eastern Nangarhar province on Oct. 24.
On Oct. 13, two civilians, including a woman, were killed and six civilians were wounded when a suicide car bomb went off near a security checkpoint in Ghani Khil district of Nangarhar.
About 22 security forces were killed and 20 police and army personnel were wounded in a Taliban ambush attack against a line of security forces' supply convoy in northern Sari Pul province on Oct. 13. Several dozens of militants were also killed and injured in one-day clashes.
The militants also launched suicide bombings and rocket attacks in Kabul, killing over one dozen security forces and civilians last month and injuring more than 20 others.
At least six targeted killings occurred in a number of provinces last month, claiming the lives of several government officials , security forces and local leaders.
In one attack, the district police chief of Sabari district of eastern Khost province, Shir Ahmad, was killed along a policeman after a roadside bombing targeted his vehicle on Oct. 18.
On Oct. 8, two civilians and three police were killed and 18 people, including the district police chief of Naw Zad district , were wounded in a suicide car bombing on the police chief's house in Lashkar Gah, the capital of southern Helmand province.
More than 1,560 civilians were killed and nearly 3,290 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in the first half of this year, according to official figures released by the UN mission in the country.
More than 50 Afghan soldiers lost their lives last month while over 800 militants were killed and 500 others wounded during military operations and clashes. However, casualties of the police remained unknown.
Two U.S. troops and one NATO service member lost their lives in non-hostile incidents last month.
More than 34 ,000 NATO-led coalition troops, down from the peak of 130,000 in 2010, are currently stationed in Afghanistan. Nearly 24,000 of them are Americans and the United States plans to trim its forces to less than 10,000 next year mainly for training of Afghan security forces and conducting operations if requested by Afghan military officials.
